I am an American psychologist, having come from San Francisco to the Netherlands some twenty-plus years ago. My practice in America was diverse, working with children and adults, people with chemical dependency problems, ex-convicts, adolescents with legal problems, couples, and families, both hospital-based and private practice outpatient treatment with folks dealing with the numerous problems we face in life. Ph.D. research on child development in the People's Republic of China; I have a lot of experience in cross-cultural psychology.
Since coming to the Netherlands, I have been working with people from all over the world, where English may or may not be their native tongue. Positive psychology has informed my practice in recent years, with a focus on building what is strong rather than solely working on fixing what is wrong. I also teach clinical and health psychology at University College Utrecht, an honors undergraduate program serving Dutch and international students.
